On April 8, 2025, a shocking incident unfolded in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles. Jillian Lauren Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The event took place during a police manhunt for suspects involved in a hit-and-run incident.

According to the LAPD, officers were assisting the California Highway Patrol in searching for three suspects who had fled a hit-and-run scene. While pursuing one of the suspects, who had run through a backyard, police encountered Shriner in the front yard of a neighboring residence. She was reportedly holding a handgun. Despite repeated orders to drop the weapon, Shriner allegedly refused and pointed the gun at the officers. This led to an “officer-involved shooting,” during which Shriner was struck by gunfire.

Shriner sustained non-life-threatening injuries and fled into her home after being shot. She was later taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment. A 9-millimeter handgun was recovered from her residence. Shriner was subsequently booked on suspicion of attempted murder while still in the hospital. She is currently being held on $1 million bail.

The LAPD’s Force Investigation Division is currently investigating the incident. Detective Meghan Aguilar stated that body-worn camera footage did not provide a clear view of the moments leading up to the shooting or whether Shriner fired at the officers. Authorities are reviewing multiple videos and seeking access to any surveillance camera footage from the area.

Jillian Lauren Shriner is a well-known author, having penned two New York Times bestsellers: “Some Girls: My Life in a Harem” (2010) and “Everything You Ever Wanted” (2015). She is married to Scott Shriner, the bassist of the popular rock band Weezer. The couple has two children. It is unclear if the incident will affect Weezer’s scheduled performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 12.

The incident has garnered significant attention and concern from the public. As the investigation continues, more details are expected to emerge regarding the events leading up to the shooting and the subsequent charges against Shriner. The LAPD has emphasized that Shriner was not involved in the original hit-and-run incident.
